Had one of our company's semi-regular "there are going to be redundancies" emergency phone call this morning
Thankfully I was on the "you're safe" call. Bearing in mind that I'm moving house tomorrow, I shat a fucking brick.

lol, semi
Joking aside, even semi-regular redundancies can't be a good sign.

Yeah, it happens once or twice a year
Cost cutting exercises, they call it. They refer to the people being cut as 'surplus', which is nice. Considering they benefitted hugely from the recent tax cut, you'd think they'd be a bit happier. Money grabbing cunts.

when my brother ran his first business (which went down the pan) he had to make people redundant
he was physically sick most nights before doing it

it's the modern business world
either regular layoffs to show the shareholders you care about keeping costs low, or hiring the majority of your workforce through agencies and junk contracts so that they don't show up on the payroll. Share price has killed off any concept of company loyalty to its employees.
