to my utmost shame
I moved to Edinburgh from Birmingham nearly twenty years ago.

My Mum and Dad came to visit and meet my new girlfriend, (now ex). We went out to dinner, during which my Mum calmly asked my Aberdonian Girlfriend,

"Do they turn the clocks back in Scotland?"

I think one of the reasons she is an ex is that she would never let me forget this and told the world.

I should point out I am not ashamed of moving to Scotland, only of my mother. Sorry Mum.

» Childhood bad taste

first album bought
Elvis sings Gospel.

it had Hound Dog on it which did confuse me somewhat. Bright Pink sleeve with Elvis framed by a big seventies style star.

I also had a baby grow until I was about eight or even nine, my american aunts bought them over.

Bitty anyone?

Panto season
For the last 20 years I've been working panto, not as an actor but as a lighting tech. Luckily the days of working a show on christmas day are long gone.
However, we do only get Christmas day off and have two shows on boxing day and also a show on New Years Day. Not the best if you have a family.

You would think the management would be sympathetic to two decades of this. Not a bit.

This year they tried to dock a number of staff a days pay as the Theatre is shut on Saturday as it is Christmas Day, we told them no and then they have tried to get us to use the lieu day from the next weeks public holiday which we haven't even worked yet!

This type of behaviour is par for the course and only thanks to having a strong union membership do we actually have most of our legal rights protected from this onslaught of madness. We do get double time and time in lieu for public holidays but even then we have to make sure it is calculated properly.

They of course are free to have a decent amount of time off every year.

Never seen a xmas bonus and the xmas party has to be paid for by those attending and it is held on the one night we get to spend at home. Only recently do we get any kind of hospitality on the first night.

Remember Hold Tight
It was the kids show filmed at Alton Towers, giant vertical snakes and ladders board.

I was in a team on the show with a medieval theme, I fancied Sue Robbie and spent most of the time looking down the very low cut 'princess' dress she was wearing.

Buster Bloodvessel and Nik Kershaw was on it and Bob Carolgees was an alright bloke. Best bit was getting to spend the day jumping the queue on all the rides as they gave you a Granada badge. We also got to take a whole coach load of friends with us and they also got in for free.

Worst bit was despite winning the show and getting a close up of me showing my prowess with a bow and arrow,( voice over of Sue saying "Ooh, he's good!", nearly gave me a hard on when I watched it), we only won a crappy Alphabet Zoo Annual from Ralph McTell, suitable for pre-schoolers! What a cunt. The look of disgust on all our faces is quite plain to see as the credits role.

My sister deliberately recorded over my copy of it after some petty squabble, I still cast it up to her nearly 25 years later. Oh fuck, that can't be right, I'm an old bastard, I bet Sue Robbie is a bit less pert now days, I still would though.

No apologies for length, and did I really see Rob mention someone finishing off a Cat? I hope for their sake they were in Denmark or certain States in America.
