Guerilla warfare
When I were a nipper there was a lot on the news about Guerilla Warfare in Angola (or some other suitably remote place).
As this was at the same time as the TV series of 'Planet of the Apes', it seemed obvious to me that the various countries had captured and trained up armies of gorillas. I still recall the disappointment at finding the border between fact and fiction was nowhere near where I thought it was.

9 years difference
21st : Only surviving photo is of me at a nightclub. Rather drunk. Surrounded by a troupe of (1st class) strippers.
30th : Married with kids - picked up a dose of the chicken pox from my daughters a few days before. Unable to sleep due to the unbearable itching, I ended up seeing in the dawn reading a Feynman book and marvelling at the neighbourhood's cats dancing on our lawn in the first rays of the sun. Really quite stunning.

In Wolverhampton
there is a middle-class suburb called Compton. Stencilled above the "Welcome to ..." sign is 'Straight Outta'.
This has been there since the mid 90s and reappeared (in the same stencil design) after the sign was replaced in the early 00s.
Respec !
(Or whatever the youngsters say.)

Re: Overground mines
Not as silly as it sounds :-
A recent addition to the 'Black County Living Museum' (Dudley - W Mids) is a coal mine which was built by constructing a mine shaft above ground on a *slight* incline and then covering the whole thing with earth. Visitors suffering from claustrophobia are taken to one of the signposted emergency exits which open out into the open air.

Why can't people handle percentages
Oooooo ! Having to sit through the wife watching 'Buying a Home Abroad' (or whatever). I overheard that the cost of a house had fallen by 300%. WTF ! You mean that will give you twice as much to take it off their hands ?
