Dr Sam
My lovely wife was experiencing abdominal pains, irregular periods and a number of other, not so nice symptoms. The GP was no help whatsover, didn't refer her when required and pretty much didn't know thier arse from their elbow.
After 2 years of Scans, Going to hospital for all types of tests and physical examinations it is found that she has got quite severe endometriosis. At this point things start getting a bit rosier.. or so i thought. because fo the severity she is asked by the most fantastic doctor, Dr Sam, if she wants to try a different form of treatment.
It was a 50/50 chance whether the treatment was done or whether it was a placebo. The treatment was the same drugs and dosage used while going through chemotherapy. After a couple of invasive operations and six months of treatment it is all clear on the scans. another 6 months after this she falls pregnant.
I'm over the moon, she's over the moon. The doctor that looked after us throughout the treatment, who is now a personal friend was ecstatic. He did at this point take me aside and said the possibility of going full term, this close after the treatment was not great. 3 1/2 months down the line, after seeing the heartbeat and shape my wife does miscarry.
I knew it might have been on the cards but she was distraught. I didn't want to show too much emotion and be the strong one, the shoulder to cry on. As she was going through the process to abort, Dr Sam spoke to me outside. i couldn't hold it in any longer. He gave me the biggest bearhug until i'd finished. By the way i had been made redundant just over an hour before getting to the hospital to find out the news.
I know the GP wasn't the best but the problem was sorted in the end. I know the outcome of being pregnant wasn't what anyone wanted, but we've both made a lifelong friend in Dr Sam and his family, who helped us all the way through, and keeps in regular contact. Usually phoning up or going for coffee and asking when were trying again.
I couldn't ask for anything more from the NHS. There is sometimes a requirement to push for the right referals and treatment, but when you do get them, you get the best state healthcare in the world.

Box Clever
This happened a couple of days ago, and i still can't believe it.
Our fantastic company know exactly how to keep costs down.
We had a delivery of a couple of PC's to do some temporary work, that needed returning to Le France when finished with.
An email turned up 2 days ago advising a box and prepaid postage would be sent for the return of these machines. Before i could contact them and advise i have a stack of prepaid postage labels and boxes (we have these in the UK as well. There is no national corrugated cardboard shortage to my knowledge.)
They had sent a box filled with bubblewrap across europe on Express Postage.
I did a quick check on the couriers website for this sirt of delivery and the correct dimensions and weight. This could have cost over 200 euros. I know because we have a prepaid company account it may be a little cheaper, but who the fuck sends an empty box across europe!!.

How never to have another motorcycle crash ever
My mum is usally pretty down to earth, and is quite understanding in most situations. I've been quite accident prone all my life and have probably more accidents than hot dinners. I was 21 at the time and had passed my motorbike test pretty much one year previous. Some cock of a driver, with no insurance, licence, tax, or a legal car for that matter decided upon themselves to U-turn in the road from traffic that wasn't moving. he clipped the back end of the bike and sent me flying. only going about 15mph but the damage was quite extensive. broke arm, fingers, leg, toes, concussion, the works. Got to hospital and my best mate had been caled and was waiting for me in A&E. Lots of people runing around checking my pulse, levels of abger etc.... I got shut up quite quickly, the thing i remember most about all of this shitstorm is my mum. My lovely concerned mother came running through the door in tears, to see me on a trolley looking very injured and sorry for myself. the only thing that sticks out in my mind is rather elaborate, katie price style PINK VELOUR FUCKING TRACKSUIT she was wearing. I'm sure this the only time she's worn it. Apart from the embarresment of my mum in the pinkest (bright pink, not baby pink), velourist bloody tracksuit i have ever seen. It probably served as the best way of taking my mind of the excruciating pain of the left hand side of my body. I laughed all the way through the mountain of stitches that went into me that day.
Thanks Mum. You are an expert in pain relief.
