# Restart your router and PC
The 'DNS' is what gets the b3tards.com name to convert to a number for the interweb to work. Restarting your PC and router should make them look the numbers up again. If not, swear at your ISP and wait.

Internet magics.

# so... "Internet Magics" = "tun it off and turn it on again" ;-)

# Shhhhh...
Don't give away the IT Secrets of how everything works.

All borked electronics, computers, etc are fixed this way. Or with hammers. Hammers fix everything that TurnItOffAndBackOnAgain doesn't.

(May not work with pacemakers)

# Thankyou, I shall give this a go...
strange how it is only b3tard stuff though, I presumed it was something to do with the mantinence they have been doing..

# Change your dns, use the google one for a night. You can set it without faffing with router settings

# Lack of trust of the Google Eye of Sauron
means I would use OpenDNS.org on 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220

But that is all technical stuff which needs to be applied with Hammers. Which is why I suggested the TurnItOffAndBackOnAgain method... followed by a swift kick. (Why do you think it is called rebooting?)
(, Thu 9 Feb 2012, 20:16, archived)
# It takes longer to reboot a computer than to change your dns settings.
But yeah, use open dns instead if you dinnae trust google, it's not like google already have script on half the pages of the internet... oh wait.

# Ahhh...
but then there are ways to block much of that stuff with your own DNS variations of the AdBlock idea.

I'm not paranoid... I just don't like advertisers knowing too much about me. (Opens new page to Amazon to buy something.... ARF!!)

As to "restarting a PC" vs "changing DNS settings". Yeah - you and I know where to find them and fix them in a blink of an eye. You ain't seen how stupid my clients are!!

# I switched it off and on again instead!
(, Thu 9 Feb 2012, 20:16, archived)
# Or, easier, turn the router off and on
start
run
cmd
ipconfig /flushdns
(, Thu 9 Feb 2012, 20:15, archived)
# I like Simple
Simple to me is hit the power switch. Everyone understands hitting things. Too many support phone calls been done where it takes an age to get someone to just type simple commands. Even spelling those commands over the phone is a nightmare (and then the client starts reading out the DOS prompt....)

TurnItOffAndBackOnAgain is the standard multi-purpose fix. Along with Hammers.

# They can turn the router off and on if it's nearby, or remotely through 192.168.0.1 (or variation)
Then a simple list of four commands a 5 year old could follow.
press the start button. See the run box at the bottom? Type cmd in that box and hit enter... thats C.M.D. Yes M for Monkey. Now type ipconfig SPACE /flushdns in the scary black window. That's the slash with the top leaning to the right. Is that in? Did you remember the space... no this time it was N for Night. Hit Enter. You're done.

# I am right with you....
I do agree with you. In most cases. And I get so bored reading out those exact commands over the phone. Which is why I just go the simple route with my simple clients. Especially that Mac owner who starts complaining about lack of Run... boxes.

Why are we talking technical stuff? HAMMERS are the only answer.

# my router's menus are all in norwegian
my previous router's menus were all in german

neither of these are very much use to people like me, who speak neither norwegian nor german

# Haha.. switch it off and on again..!!
Worked a treat and working perfectly !!

Thanks the lot... have a woo duck for your troubles ;-)

# Duck Prizes!!! Yay!!!
Glad it all works again and you didn't have to resort to Hammers.
