i fucking loved the martian!
the book was better but the film was probably as close as they could get without it being stupidly long. the martian was everything gravity should have been but i won't say anymore in case i slip out a spoiler

Gravity vs Martian
Gravity was painful to watch if you have any idea of orbital science. For me there was too much of messing with the rules of physics. No idea why it won awards apart from being a pretty 3D toy to play with. For me the actors aren't convincing.
The Martian is a much better watch. Closer to real science. Some stupid steps, but generally much more believable. Even if it is MATT DAMON and his acting "talents" he does work well in the role.
