i'm not sure
i just found it on my lawn. It doesn't look in pain, in that it's just sitting there. But i don't think it can move, so it may have a broken leg/wing.
I tried poking some bread at it and it just didn't move at all.

maybe it was someone
sending you a message, and it'll just go away once you take it off it. but it's a stupid creature so it won't let you get to it.

Does it have a ring?
If it does, it's a domestic pigeon (at least, over here in the Netherlands that would be the case).
We had one in our garden last week. Stayed for the night, then left. Just resting, I guess.
If it isn't hurt, just wait it out a bit.
And, pigeons have about the IQ of a brick, so it probably forgot it is alive.
