It's nothing of the sort in my opinionand I'd like to think I understand this as I am a cabinet maker. I also draw and I reference 'Anatomy for fantasy artists' by Glen Fabry. I can copy pretty much out of that to perfection now. It does not make me a talented artist, it simply means I have a talent for mimicry.
Vettriano simply copies figures from reference pictures and paints them a different colour. It requires very little talent. I know this because I do it all the time.
