arf!
a minor tj. if i start up p'shop or something equally as meaty whilst playing a tune in win media, is it usual for the tune to break up and stutter a bit or does something in my machine need a rub down with an oily rag and a whack with a hammer. i've only got amd 64 processor 1.79ghz 960mb ram, whatever that means

The problem
will be down to ram ( the more the merrier ) as Tattyshop just gobbles it up. But also it's because they are probably reading from the same physical drive and they have to fight each other for seek times.
One of the biggest problems with photoshop is the scratch disk ( where photoshop stores all that info for undo and stuff as it works ) By default it is on the C: drive, this is bad if your OS, PS and scratch are all on the same drive. Scratch disks ideally have to be on a separate physical drive ( and not just a partition on the same drive ). If you have a second disk drive change the preferences in Tattyshop to use the second drive for a scratch disk and this will improve your system performance greatly. If you are using Vista you are running at the bare minimum of ram and I would suggest at least another gig, if not 3.
