and I'll say again, a compo is only as good as the effort put in and the direction you try to approach it from.

The thing is just that some challenges cause a larger amount of lower quality entries as others
but most challenges tend to get more than a few good attempts made at them.

The thing to remember is that this is no different to if there wasn't a challenge anyway, you'll always get a lot of dross posted with a few gems thrown in here and there.
