I enjoy Terry Pratchett's works of fictionbut I would hardly say that he has contributed a lot of worth. Doctors contribute a lot of worth. Teachers contribute a lot of worth. Firemen contribute a lot of worth. Novelists and inane TV personalities alike contribute roughly the same amount.
So unless Terry Pratchett has fed a lot of third world children I don't know about, he hasn't really contributed anything of any real worth.

Well i don't know about that.There are plenty of authors who have helped people, plenty of books that have helped people. You don't need to give someone a heart bypass to save/change their life.

I'm not saying it did for me,but take something like Catcher in the Rye. A lot of people claim it helped them through their disenfranchised youths and such. There are plenty of books out there that have helped people through difficult times in their lives.
