Free and takes up next to no space, also, it will open pretty much any media file you like :)

otherwise you can try to use ffmpeg directly, if you only want to change format

Probably try AutoGK to convert it to something playable

# handbrake to convert
nice easy use wrapper for the osx port of mencoder (mplayers converter) - converts to most formats

mplayer for osx also plays most formats back ... funnily O_o

vlc works well with perion & flipformac codecs, but also quicktime player does the job if you've a high end mac otherwise you have to wait ages for it to pre render

osx mplayer (for me) works best with mkv's
