/the prestige movie actually complimented the novel very very well.

Depends on how you take the film.
Some people think that the duplicator never worked in the film and it was a con by Angier, see:

It is an interesting thing to think about, considering a lot of the movie is seen through the points of view of the characters reading intentionally deceitful accounts of each other's time.
When the main characters are all magicians, and in some sense they're the narrators, what can you trust?
Personally loved it.
