Forget this beery bash nonsense, or else incorporate it somehow. Various hardcore b3tards are doing the Bath Half marathon. Come to scenic, touristic, twee, overpriced Bath and cheer us on.

Bath Half Marathon
Going: crackhouseceilidhband, Moey, M3rx, zulu (4 people).
to click 'I don't want to do that' but then remembered that I've paid for it already, so it's too late.

Why run in the cold, when pubs have fireplaces and booze?
( , Mon 17 Nov 2008, 18:03, Reply)
I can drink more and sit by more fireplaces without ravaging my body quite so much. Not that I'm averse to a bit of ravaging.

You know you're not happy 'til your walking like John Wayne.

but if I'm match fit by then I may well do.
I came 2nd in my class (Super veteran) the last half marathon I did. I used to live down that way too so I would like to revisit sometime.

It wasn't so much mandatory as frowned upon if you don't.
Third year though, so I must enjoy it a bit.

( , Fri 28 Nov 2008, 14:20, Reply)
You'll have to sign up for the running elsewhere.

Seeing me physically run will totally destroy the huge amount of sexual allure I have so carefully cultivated throughout my posts on masturbation, Harry Potter orgies and shitting in marmot burrows.

I might be doing that there jogging, but there be that big head of the river race in london the weekend after. And seeing as I can't usually walk for a few days after a half marathon...
Who knows!
I dont.

good luck with your half marathon

..I'll watch from the GPT if you don't mind. This may or may not involve me holding beer. It will not involve me running!

I'm in the States, and i'll be doing my half marathon in May.
( , Thu 5 Mar 2009, 3:46, Reply)
The longest training run I have done so far is 5 miles. I think I may be in trouble.
( , Fri 6 Mar 2009, 10:06, Reply)
but am not up to my target time and I missed 10 days training because of the snow. Oh well, best just run and enjoy.
( , Sun 8 Mar 2009, 16:39, Reply)
but as long as it's under two hours I'll be relatively satisfied.
( , Mon 9 Mar 2009, 9:12, Reply)
I'm off the booze now and am eating all the pasta my little hands can hold.
So, anyone on for a pint afterwards? Anyone want to name a pub? Or are we all just happy that we'll have been in the same race at the same time?
( , Sun 8 Mar 2009, 16:40, Reply)
I too am off the booze. I had a roast last night WITH NO WINE. I cannot tell you how disheartening this is for me.
( , Mon 9 Mar 2009, 9:11, Reply)
Do you know anywhere within crawling distance of the finish? I don't envisage walking much after this... my 8 mile run last week almost left me crippled.
( , Mon 9 Mar 2009, 14:44, Reply)
but any of the pubs within crawling distance will be rammed. It took ages to be served in the Pig and Fiddle last year, but then it always does.
I'll probably be crawling back to my car to drive myself home :(
( , Mon 9 Mar 2009, 14:49, Reply)
My brother is responsible for any driving afterwards.
Maybe I'll just fill his boot with bottles of cider and climb in there for the short journey back to his house.

I just did a wee 30 minute run and my shins really hurt. They feel like no blood is reaching them - numb n' stuff. It always seems to happen at the 3 mile mark.
This is not the time to get recurring numb shins.
Back to your normal conversations now.

I had the brilliant idea that spending Friday morning throwing myself down a small, snowy slope in Milton Keynes, with naught but a flimsy piece of plastic strapped to my feet would be ideal preparation for a half marathon.
I chose the tightest of boots that have knackered my legs and meant I couldn't run at all over the weekend. This could be an even more painful 13 miles that it would otherwise have been. And it would already have been very painful indeed.
( , Mon 9 Mar 2009, 17:08, Reply)
I'm off to Tamworth Snowdome a week on Friday, i.e. after the half!
Also, CHCB, that sounds like you need cushioning insoles in your running shoes. Might be a bit late now though!
( , Tue 10 Mar 2009, 10:35, Reply)
I thought my shoes would be cushioning enough! Meh! It's only been the past couple of weeks that my shins have been getting sore.
Then again, I did get a stress fracture in my leg from running a half marathon in 2004. I have no wish to spend another month on crutches. This time I'll stop when it hurts instead of soldiering on for a sub 2hr time with a broken leg.
( , Tue 10 Mar 2009, 11:54, Reply)
I'll be able to walk until the Friday after the run.
What's more, I'll be spending the following week snowboarding on a proper hill in Spain, so would rather run the risk of not being able to participate in the silly running caper than the silly falling down a mountain caper.
( , Tue 10 Mar 2009, 17:07, Reply)
that I've been constantly hungry this past week?
Is it just my body overcompensating for the idiocy it'll be put through on Sunday?
Is it lunch time yet?
( , Fri 13 Mar 2009, 11:38, Reply)
I also had a glass of wine. Oh well. Normally I would've had a bottle.
( , Fri 13 Mar 2009, 13:04, Reply)
Save me an iv drip, i'll be there before sun down at least.
( , Sat 14 Mar 2009, 12:50, Reply)
Sub 2hrs and I think I'll lose a toenail.
Bloody hot, weren't it?
( , Sun 15 Mar 2009, 15:19, Reply)
and i'm walking like an extra from brokeback mountain the musical.
Well done for your sub 2 hour time, it was horribly hot.. that sun wasn't good on my bald head.
I'm now off to drink heavily.
( , Sun 15 Mar 2009, 15:36, Reply)
My worst time by 14 seconds!
I'm never doing that again, and this time I mean it. I've never seen so many people lying by the side of the road!
( , Mon 16 Mar 2009, 10:42, Reply)
So you were literally just ahead of me - I probably stood on your toes in the goody bag queue.
( , Mon 16 Mar 2009, 18:43, Reply)
Bristol half in September, anyone?
For some peculiar reason, and despite the fact that my legs still ache, I'm quite tempted.
