I could be persuaded to see if we can reserve the back room at Gaslamp and get B3tan Quackpipe AKA Kalabi to do an AV set. I actually mentioned at his debut live gig last Saturday about the possibility of organising a B3ta musicians bash in Manchester -- any other musicians or DJs in the locality?

Had a word with one of the guys at Gaslamp,

seemed to think it'd be OK for us to reserve some space in the back room and use their little in-house PA for your set. Probably have to be early on, before the resident DJ turns up.

Will sort things out with them further by e-mail in the next week.

There are loads of hotels in Manchester,

including quite a few near to where the Gas Lamp is, but a quick look on websites like LateRooms and TravelSupermarket seems to indicate that they're either all booked-up, are costly, or have a minimum two-night stay.

A couple of hostel options are Hatters@Hilton Chambers (centrally-located, a bit more up-market than the standard back-packers' hostel) and Ashton House Hostel (not far from Victoria Station, no idea what it's like...).

Thanks Happosai - I'm a bit snobby for hostels (have stayed in Hatters when I was poorer) but was just wondering if people had specific recommendations for hidden gems.

I might have a look on LateRooms on the day and make a judgement then.

I've just had a look through my database of venues in Manchester for budget hotels (more like B&Bs) in the vicinity of the Gas Lamp -- some of these may not show up on hotel booking websites:

Burton Arms Hotel
Commercial Hotel
Little Northern Hotel
Smithfield Hotel

No idea what any of them are like...probably best checking them out on TripAdvisor or similar.
