This is a normal post Hague's stuff aside,
...Bercow simply isn't as even-handed as he should be. There's all sorts of problems with self-promotion and conflicting interests.

This is a normal post Word.
Though of all of them, he's supposed to be the conscience of the house, the guy who makes sure it's not all snide personal attacks and that people answer the questions they are asked. Problem is he's been taking sides, getting in his own cronies, offering his own opinon and dropping the ball on things like not letting it be about him - and that's part of the reason behind Hague's dirty tricks - not that it excuses them.

This is a normal post I'm not disagreeing, he's the same as most of the rest of them.
They could do with be reminded that they are conscience of the people and should act accordingly.
My wife is a teacher and she said something interesting a while back, in that they (the teachers) rule by consent. And that if the kids all collectively decided otherwise then there wouldn't be a fat lot they could do about it.

This is a normal post I hardly think it constitutes dirty tricks.
He's been a woeful speaker, cynical and not at all even handed, and often becoming the centre of the story, absolutely not what the speaker should be. Back in 2000, on the very same subject, i.e. a secret ballot for the election of the speaker, one Tory M.P. had this to say:

"In view of growing concern that the government whips will seek to browbeat people into voting for a preferred candidate, can we have guidance on the possibility of ensuring that the election will be conducted by secret ballot?"

His name? John Bercow. Given his well documented bias, M.P.s fear voting for a change in procedure he is now not in favour of, as they know he is inclined to treat those he doesn't like unfavourably.

47% of M.P.s voted for a change to the current procedure. This is far from a ringing endorsement for the man who is supposed to have the best interests of the House and its democratic procedures foremost in his mind.
