This is a link post Cigar-chomping lunatic Ridley Scott has announced that his new Prometheus sequel ("Alien: Covenant ") is just the first in a new TRILOGY of prequels.
At this stage one would hope that he's not deliberately trying to destroy the original.

Though this is an actual quote from his announcement:

"There'll be another one and then another one which will gradually drive into the back entrance of the 1979 film."

Oh, Ridley.

This is just too easy.

Ridley's getting on a bit too. 77 years old. I'd be surprised if he's around long enough to make these

This is a normal post They could shoot it back to back and motion capture the black goo to save on post production time.

This is a normal post Having to suffer through a bitterly disappointing prequel trilogy led by the director of the original who has subsequently forgotten what made that original so great...

To quote an untarnished trilogy:

"There's something very familiar about all this."

The worst part is that I still forced myself to enjoy Prometheus somewhat,
by pretending it's a different universe altogether :(

This is a normal post I watched it twice just to be sure that Jam was correct by describing it that way
It's true. Every word of it. :(

This is a normal post The franchise was pretty much dead on it's arse when the third film was released
the fourth was mystifying in how awful it was. And then there was Prometheus which was simply jaw dropping in how dreadful cinema could be. So i've pretty much lost interest in this to be honest

This is a normal post I'm only going to watch Ridley Scott films
if they're adaptations, like The Martian.

Since his Director's Cut of Bladerunner was so well received (and genuinely improved on the original cinema release), he thinks every idea he has is golden.

This is a normal post I hated the Martian
Very well made and shot, but just awful in terms of holes - more holey than a swiss cheese shot with a shotgun, and then worked over with a hole punch e.g. (spoiler alert) mending an air lock with polythene sheet and duct tape? FFS.

Saw Interstellar last night, more bollocks - just a chick flick with time travel.

This is a normal post You do know that Andy Weir consulted with NASA to make The Martian as accurate as possible?
The plastic/duct tape thing would be perfectly serviceable for a repair like that which doesn't have to be perfect, has to just be good enough to keep him alive. The book is well worth a read by the way.

This is a normal post Hmmm, yeah
Can't really see the holes in the Martian.

Prometheus; fair enough.
