He's a total legend
just watched the whole thing, man I wish he was my physics teacher in grammar school. He defines nutty professor but comes across as possibly the most sane man I've seen lecture. Inspirational character.

oh my God!
I read this guys book "The Cuckoo's Egg" about hackers YEARS back. Nice to know he's still around, but had no idea quite what a character he is. Totally recommend his book, I hope one day it might be mad into a film, and blow away all those crappy geek movies like "Hackers" and "War Games"

There's a german film
about the other side of that hack called "23" - it's well worth a watch if you can find a copy with subtitles
www.imdb.com/title/tt0126765/

Fuuuuuuuck
His hair looks just like mine does when I don't get it cut for a while. (Usually when I'm engrossed in some project and don't bother with distractions - like haircuts. I wouldn't change my clothes, wash, leave the house, eat proper meals or go to bed if I had my way. Luckily I've got Mrs Legless who reminds me to do those things...)
But guys like this are the reason that, every time I wish America would just disappear up it's own arsehole and spare the rest of the planet, I realise that, if it did, we wouldn't have guys likes this.
Fuck it. Someone *that* eccentric just has to be an honorary Englishman.
Cheers

Fuck you legless, I'm about to outanecdote you.
A few years ago, I was looking for a birthday present for my good friend The Furry Dinosaur, and came across Klein Jars, the topological oddities he talks about here. I ordered an acme klein jar and it was shipped to me accompanied by a suitably eccentric packing list (Payment method: PayPal. Payment amount: $44.00. Number of Samurai in Kurasawa's best movie: 7) With a lovely handwritten note across it: "Smiles and Cheers, Tom! --Cliff Stoll" It was only then that I realised precisely who I'd ordered it from. The packing list is still on my wall to this day.
Cheers

Acme Klein Bottles
You can buy them here handmade by Mr. Stoll himself, they make great gifts for people who have everything else.
www.kleinbottle.com/
Speaking of eccentric packaging, I still have the invoice for one item I bought from him. "1 Drinking Glass - Self Emptying".
Thinking about it, there's no way this site hasn't been posted before some time in the past.

Clifford Stoll
I suspect he has Asperger's Syndrome, partly why he is such an individual and constantly wants to talk about stuff that he thinks interests him and no one else. He's very happy in his own skin and doesn't care about what people think of him. The finely tuned science brain is a giveaway too, you only have to look at Einstein.
