The Ballad of Peniston - a masterpiece of musical historical story-telling, it brings to life the epic tale of the rise and fall of Peniston.

though so far in the past that almost all the people living there are unaware of the glorious history Peniston has.
It's a bit like Beowulf innit.

they put scunthorpe and penistone of the weather maps. it is spelt penistone though - rather that without the e, which would be CC Peniston's spelling of choice.

So many men have risked everything and lost it all after succumbing to Pink Fever. Though great fortunes have been made by the lucky few, of course.

I was brought up near Penistone and lived on a little street off Penistone Road. When I was very little we had to make papier-mache puppets for a school project. Obviously we used local newspapers to make the required material. I somehow managed, pure serendipity, to plaster only half of the word Penistone across the top of my puppet's head. Me and my mate Keith laughed and laughed until we were sent to the headmaster's office.
