Having just moved
from Brighton to Cambridge, I CANNOT find any decent fish and chips in the area and it makes me sad (although is massively helping my figure!). I've tried the one on Regent Street and was remarkably underwhelmed. Any suggestions?

I'll try and post something mildly amusing when I've thought of it.

You've moved from the coast to the Midlands.
You're doomed to disappointment.

Too right
You've got no idea how much I fucking miss Brighton. Stupid prestigious university, can't it be somewhere by the beach?!
(, Mon 30 May 2011, 11:50, closed)
Should have gone to St Andrews
although then you'd by the beach but away from everything else in the universe

Could have its upside at times, I suppose...

Jacks Fish and Chips, Cherry Hinton Road
Maybe have a go at them? Only tried them once, but it is a fish and chip shop all the same...

Cool thanks
I will do! :)

Deep blue fish&chips. Also on Cherry Hinton Road. Have tried, and was pretty good from what I remember.

Having said that, if you are in Cambridge and not eating Gardies kebabs, you may well be making a grave error.

EDIT: Some googling seems to suggest that Jacks and Deep Blue may in fact be the same place, oddly by different names.

Gardies kebabs?
I must admit, I'm not a kebab lover but if they are *that good* I may give them a go. Where might they be found? (because I am too lazy for google... :P)

I was always a fan of...
...Istanbul (East Road) and Bosphorus (Mill Road).

seconding Gardies
Just off Trinity Street, down from McDonalds.

I am going to have to try all of these
Goodbye, this month's stipend...

This
I was just going to recommend Deep Blue but have been beaten to it - twice, it would seem.

Have a third recommendation though.

Best F&C in Brighton?
Out of curiosity, what is your choice of F&C in Brighton? I can't say that I've ever had any that really blew me away.
(, Mon 30 May 2011, 16:16, closed)
The one next to my old house
on Upper Hollingdean Road. Really local and really cheap - maybe it's just nostalgia clouding my view, but I miss it.

Fagitos on Mill Road
do nice chips.

The one in Arbury Court is OK.

Nom
Do Fatgits still do spicy spuds?..I used to love them..maybe I should stop by and grab a box again. Gardenia is rather good but the Cherry Hinton Rd Chippy was usually one of the better ones.
If you join any of the sports clubs/societies you will probably get intoduced to plenty more places (We get free chips in the Alma on Tuesday eves after trampolining if enough people go), OK mostly pubs

Have a look near the industrial estates, inland chippies tend to be better when they're serving lunches to a workforce.
I'm assuming Cambridge still has some form of industry besides call centres.

Bit out of town...
...but if you head to Bar Hill for the massive Tesco, there's Fish 'n' Chicken on the same site, who do a respectable fish supper.

Before Red Rooster bought out Chooks
& turned it into their "Westcoast Fried" menu Chooks used to do a wicked "Chicken Chippees" (MSM Chicken fingers crumbed & fried.
No-where near Cambridge or Brighton but you'da been sorry you missed it.
