This is a question Customers from Hell

The customer is always right. And yet, as 'listentomyopinion' writes, this is utter bollocks.

Tell us of the customers who were wrong, wrong, wrong but you still had to smile at (if only to take their money.)

I work in McDonalds
sadly. I hear you all scoffing, as I must have a low IQ and the appearance of an unwashed pubescent child. I assure you this is not the case, and I am fed up with the stick we get for working there. The only reason I'm working for them is because no-where else would hire me, as I'd never had a job before, and I need some money to go to university.

Anyway. No matter how bad you think the staff in McDonalds are, and I admit there are some pricks, the customers are a hell of a lot worse. We get the people that walk in and ask for a "McDonald's", and nothing else. Cue look of confusion, and a loooooong conversation trying to figure out what they want. Then there's the people that take fucking ages getting their wallet/purse/generic money carrying device out and finding money, which, to be honest, they should have done while standing in line. I always do. And those are just the small things. Just a few hours ago, I was working on the top lobby (in the Coventry store, some of you might have seen me working there), when a group of little chavs, must have been around 8 or 9 years old, decide that fire extinguishers are good toys. There goes my relatively quiet day, having to mop up water from half of the seating area. The workers in my store are regularly punched/slapped/grabbed threateningly by drunken or just plain idiotic customers, and of course we get the hobos.

One guy used to come in every day, stinking of piss, and ordered a coffee. What's wrong with that?! I hear you cry. Well, nothing, until he used the toilet. And shat on the floor, and spread it EVERYWHERE. We started locking the toilet when he came in after a few of them. I never see him anymore..

And my friend told me a story of some pikey family that were sitting upstairs quite a few years back, when one of the kids pulled down his pants and shat right in the middle of the seating area. His mother didn't even bat an eyelid. In the end the kid had to clean it up himself. Inbred little shits.

So yeah, lay off the McDonald's workers, we don't like the job, and the customers don't help.

Sure things will improve for you soon...
They know not what they do. So just avoid them when you get the chance.
Nicely told though....keep it up ;-)

think of this time as a pit-stop on your journey through life
to be honest, i'm not surprised by your tales, as the majority of people who eat at macdonalds regularly are inbred scum, who deserve the bowel-cancer and malnutrition they will get.

Thankfully
I am quitting in less than two weeks time to go to university. I am filled with joy!

this is part of the reason
i never eat at macdonald's(or any other fast food place).
also, any place that employs my ex as a cleaner cannot possibly be big on hygiene.

I agree
about the opening line. I did used to think that about 'maccy d's' but then a good friend of mine in college started working there, and he isn't the least bit chavvy

The hygeine isn't actually that bad. Foodwise anyway.
Sure the lobbies might be a bit dirty, but you're not eating your food off it. And they do get a full clean every night.

Keep your chin up.
I worked in the L/Spa McDonalds from 1993/97 and I agree with you. The staff were mostly a decent bunch of relatively intelligent people who were generally 6th formers, or working their way through university, or still figuring out what they actually wanted to do with themselves. Of course, there were a handful of fuckwits on a career trajectory that was almost certain to end in prison, or worse, and the usual McDonalds 'lifers' (store managers, franchisees, etc.)

Some (perhaps even most) of the customers were fine; they knew what they wanted, ordered without preamble, handed over their money in appropriate denominations, ate without taking all day about it, didn't spread their food all over the table / floors / wall / themselves / others, put their rubbish in the bin and then kindly fucked off leaving the place more or less as they found it.

The rest... Scum. No other word for them and natural selection will ensure their removal from the gene pool at some point.

These days I'm an astrophysicist, I have a PhD from Cambridge and I work for NASA. Never judge the spotty herbert under the hat!

Good luck for university and I hope you have a similar story to tell one day.

What he said

I worked in .. I think it was Wimpey, before the site got taken over by Maccy D's in the early 80's.

It was to get some money together to help fund University.

I went to University and really have never left after over 20+ years.

I work in advanced high speed computing research.

Its fun. (But bloody hard work!)

But I do miss Wimpeys! Maccy D's and Burger Kings just don't taste the same!

Work hard, damn hard, and unless you have pissed off a particularly important god you will get the win!

Have the pleasure of
frequenting your resturants about once a year, usually on a shopping trip when it's a 'treat' for the young one.I am pleased to know that, behind the smiles and generic comments, there are go-getting people with ambitions like you. i hadn't thought of it until now. Thank you for your service x

StrangeAttractor,
I might have a very similar story to tell, as I am taking Astrophysics at uni :)

@ethong
the branch my ex works in relies on him to do most of the clean-up at night. he's a workshy, scruffy, dirty slacker. he's 40 this year, yet still hasn't progressed beyond cleaning in maccy's. i wouldn't trust him to clean a kennel.

It's not all bad
I worked there for a year starting in 06, it was in the Hazel Grove one, we had pretty much the same stuff that you talk about, plus a certain proportion of staff were...how is the best way to put it? A little off. Within two weeks of me starting work there, two people had got the sack, one for whipping it on booth 1, the other for locking the store manager in the freezer (He slid a shake mix trolley in front of the door)

Me too
I worked in Dagenham/Reading from 2001-2004. To get some money for uni, then to help get me through my first year (I quit not long into 2nd year for a different retail job). I'll try to think of some stories of my own to post but they seem to be the same as everyone else, worringly.
