This is a question My Biggest Disappointment

Often the things we look forward to the most turn out to be a huge let down. As Freddy Woo puts it, "High heels in bed? No fun at all. Porn has a lot to answer for."

Well, Freddy, you are supposed to get someone else to wear them.

What's disappointed you lot?

Irish Guinness.
Not a huge disappointment as such, because it is delicious. But, it didn't taste THAT much better than the stuff served in England, as I had been enthusiastically promised it would, just a bit more metallic is all. Maybe something to do with the water...

Anyway, I had to drink many pints just to make sure and it still made me sing loudly and fall over, which is really all that matters!

You're absolutely wrong there.
Which bars were you in?

My experience, albeit limited, is the same
I went to Cork - had about 5 pints in different places - all the fucking same.

'Oh, you need to be in Dublin for the really good stuff'.

Due to adverse weather conditions we unexpectedly go home via Dublin (whilst spending a night on a stationary ferry with some hilarious badly behaved schoolchildren, one of whom crapped themselves during 'Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels' in a very small, very sealed, very hot cinema room).

I went (once again) to about 5 of six bars and could not tell the difference.

One all.
@baz - One of the bars was at the top of the Guinness factory in Dublin. Don't get me wrong here, it was great Guinness but just not blow-me-away better than anywhere else I've drunk it.

@Monty - Glad I'm not the only one!

Irish Guinness
All Guinness in Britain is brewed in Dublin now - the London brewery closed down a few years ago.

Maybe that's why Irish Guinness didn't taste too different - you were already drinking it!

In my experience
Guinness definitely tasted better in Ireland, but especially so when in a local village pub surrounded by Irish pensioners all enthusiastically sloshing it down.

For me, the perception that it tasted better was all in the lively atmosphere of the pub.

chart cat has it
If the pub isnt serving it regularly it goes a bit manky. You need to be in a bar where it flows consistently through the pipes. Next time you're in Dublin, gaz me and I'll look after you.

Remaining hopeful...
@baz - Splendid, thanks for the offer. I was going to ask whether you could suggest a place I 'should' drink, rather than where the tourists typically go.

@Taffer - I like this reason, it explains my lack of discernment without suggesting that I actually have a lack of discernment!
