This is a question DIY disasters

I just can't do power tools. They always fly out of control and end up embedded somewhere they shouldn't. I've no idea how I've still got all the appendages I was born with.

Add to that the fact that nothing ends up square, able to support weight or free of sticking-out sharp bits and you can see why I try to avoid DIY.

Tell us of your own DIY disasters.

We made vodka with sweeties in

Some of them were good,

This is a completly normal thing in Sweden...
We call it "Socker Snaps" (Sugar Schnapps)

Given enough time, you can dissolve nearly any sweet in Vodka... try liquorice and cola bottles.

Keep the sweets in for DAYS... the thicker it is the better.

The gnarliest we ever tried was pink/blue cola-bottle things... we managed to dissolve SO much in the vodka that - when chilled - it turned to jelly.

enjoy!!

I heard
that a good way to ensure emulsification of said sweeties was to place sweet and vodka combination in a glass bottle seal the lid and then put the sealed bottle in a dishwasher and run it through a normal cycle (obviously being environmentally sound you would combine this with your dirty plates, glasses and cutlery).

Nice work!
We made Skittles vodka a few times, works best if you separate out a few colours, ie. don't mix the green and purple ones, or you end up with a brown colours.

Really good, but you have to filter it a couple of times to remove the scum.

And if you indirectly heat the vodka/sweets mix (sit it in a bowl of hot water from the kettle, may not work with plastic bottles), you get faster disolving.

Skittles
oooooo I have 5 bags of separated skittles sitting on my desk waiting to be made into special vodkas.
2 things stopping me at the moment. No monies for vodka, and I don't like vodka anyway.
One day though...

What happened with the Mars bar? Did you hit that with a hammer? Did it go squelch like a slug under a falling piano?

Being an utter geek...
... I have an old "shaker" system from a Lab' that holds bottles and slowly sloshes them around... 2 days with that quietly whirring away will dissolve nearly any sweetie =D

Bolier room
We used to make our own flavoured vodkas in one of the bars I worked in a number of years ago. We used to put the bottles on top of the boiler in a room next to the office and staff room. it used to dissolve the sweets in a couple of days.

Come to think of it now, probably not the safest thing to do considering it was a gas boiler.

@Enzyme
We put the mars bar in the freezer then hit it with a hammer.

It just sat there, ignoring us so we cut it, with knives.
