This is a question Driven to Madness

Captain Placid asks: What annoying things do significant others, workmates and other people in general do that drive you up the wall? Do you want to kill your other half over their obsessive fridge magnet collection? Driven to distraction over your manager's continued use of Comic Sans (The Font of Champions)? Tell us.

Of course, jobs are so easy to come by, why don't people just get better ones? Everyone can have a job where they sit around all day doing nothing and being paid millions. Happens all the time. Why do I bother to go to work when I could sing wit ha rock band? I can't sing, and have no charisma, but of course I can do it if I try! (yes, silly example but same goes to a lesser extent to all jobs)
Or, perhaps, people are limited by intelligence, ability, experience, lack of contacts and other things so are generally trapped in careers they chose or fell into years ago. Yes, it is possible to change career but it's costly, risky and for those not suited to home study very very difficult.

As for MPs, in general nowadays they have had tens of thousands spent on their education. To succeed in politics also requires contacts, luck, the ability to lie and treat people like shit, whilst making them like you and several other things that which most normal people cannot do.
Then there's also the slight problem of having to be, say, a Conservative to be a Conservative MP as well as doing the bidding of any commercial interests currently paying your party. An independent candidate has to raise a huge amount of money to even be noticed -- not easy starting from scratch as is evidenced in the lack of independent local governments.
