'Don't worry Madam, it'll be safe with us'When I was about 10 (1971) my Sister and I found a £20 note in the street. We raced home and, beaming with pride, showed it to my mother. While she put on her hand cream and got her outdoor coat and gloves on we excitedly argued over how we were going to spend it. Wrong!
She marched us down to the Police Station and handed it over. The desk sergeant assured her that every effort would be made to find the owner and that if nobody came forward within 6 months it would be ours.
I still remember the feeling of rage that welled up in me when the greedy, fat bastard winked at me in anticipation of many, many pints and chasers.

That's just ridiculousTaking a wallet back would be fine, but taking cash to the police is just silly talk!
