This is a question Why I Love/Hate Britain

This week's been all about the Daily Mail and why people love or hate their country. Tell us one thing you hate about Britain, and one thing about why you love it.

This shouldn't be an excuse for RACISTLOLS, or long lists of things you dislike. Be intelligent, be funny, and be interesting

That as soon as there's any mention of patriotism/national identity...
...somebody gets paranoid that it will descend into racist babblings.

Not sure if I love, hate or am mildly amused by that but it's a product of many things over a long period of time.

Don't worry, we can just preface everything with "I'm not racist, but..."

Arguably also, patriotism is a way of devoting yourself to your country's history. Ours only started getting pride-worthy in 1833 and it took until the 1960s before half the really bad stuff stopped.

I'm not proud of colonialism or the slave trade: I'm ashamed of them

I am however proud of first gay civil ceremonies and pending gay marriages, and of our cooperation with the IWCC and various international bodies that prosecute war crimes, however fudged that participation may be

Oh, and tea and scones: superb.

Exactly.
Patriotism is the new xenophobia.
