This is a question I didn't do it

Chthonic wants to know about awful, terrible things you have definitely never done. But secretly have. Confess!

when I make pasta sauce for dinner party friends, I definitely don't peel the olives in my mouth and spit them into the sauce
even though this method is by far the quickest way of turning whole olives into chopped olives

Why would you peel an olive?

because they have fucking stones in them
and many people don't like having to fish the pits out when they're eating pasta sauce, grab them from their mouths, and lay them on the side of the plate. Also, whole olives may not be the textural or taste effect that you seek. You're obviously not a chef or you wouldn't have asked the question. Of course, I could buy pre-chopped olives, but I find them both inferior and more expensive

Have you considered buying one of these?

£6.99 from Lakeland...

I own one
but if you were to get a stopwatch, and time how long it takes per olive to de-pit them (and these gadgets are not always effective on the harder-fleshed olives), put them on board, chop them, scrape them into the sauce, then wash you knife, depitter and board when you're done, and compare it to the "chew and spit" method, it is far inferior in both time and efficiency, and I think the pre-chewed olives blend better with sauce. It's difficult to replicate this effect.

I'm not a chef no.
Hopefully you're not either, if you're chopping olives with your own teeth.

Disgusting as this is,
if it keeps him away from knives, it's probably a good thing.

once I saw him make pasta with a hammer

Thank fuck I think olives taste like earwax and will not eat them

(, Sat 17 Sep 2011, 22:55, closed)
under the circumstances, a wise refusal

It's not the quickest way at all.
It's quicker to tear them apart by hand. Much quicker. Infinitely quicker.

No, I am not a chef but I like to cook. I love olives and actually used to, when younger, removed the stones from the olives on a daily basis by tearing them apart.
