Hmm tricky one
Premeditated attacks are frowned upon because of the clear intent involved. However doing a "Michael Ryan" has a couple of issues in that you appear to pose a continuous threat to the public and therefore would struggle to get probation. Also, it is more likely to result in your own death either by your own hand or by an over-excited policeman.
So I guess if you pick your victims carefully and have a specific motive it will be easier for you to be rehabilitated and no longer be considered a threat to the wider public. You're still looking at quite a stretch inside though.
