I fundamentally agree with protests about the governments idealogical policies on cutting public services and pensions
All of which have nothing to do with deficit reduction.
So the police have my support in that respect.

On the other hand, having had first hand experience of the police's treatment of demonstrators, I think it would be an eye-opener for them to be on the receiving end for a change.

Alt: I don't want to join any of the emergency services.

You're right we should continue to fund the profligate public sector with tax funds

They pay into their own pension funds
There is sufficient money available in these funds to cover their pensions. This has nothing to do with deficit reduction.

I agree almost 100% with this.
Sadly though, they are likely to get treated a lot better than your average protester.

Alt: I forgot to read the alt, so based on Tango's answer I am going to guess at what it was and say 'Bomb Disposal'. They have an easy life I think. 364 days of nothing to do in exchange for one day of arse quivering terror. Seems like a fair deal to me.

My boss here used to be in bomb disposal
He has some cracking stories!

Do they mainly involve sitting around playing cards all day, with fuck all to do?

More explosions
He also worked in Saudi doing the same thing and had to turn up to a tent in the middle of the desert to defuse a bomb that the Saudi air force had accidently dropped
