This is a question Stupid Colleagues

Godwin's Lawyer tells us: "I once worked with a lad who believed 'Frankenstein' was based on a true story, and that the book was written by Shirley Bassey." Tell us about your workplace dopes.

Sometimes the explanation is MUCH weirder than simple stupidity.
Years ago I was doing a sales course (which I failed, because I couldn't be arsed to lie for money).

During the cold calling section this lad, a former pig keeper who didn't want to live on £60 a week and condemned bacon any more, pops his hand up, and says "What if the door opens and your worst enemy's there?"

Cue much derisive LOLling, in which I joined.
Later I found out he came from here: www.cycle-route.com/routes/Bungay_The_Saints_Loop-Cycle-Route-3338.html This is a triangle in Suffolk, 10 miles on each side, where the inbreeding has gone on for a millennium.

There were 16 people in that room with him, and he admitted to me afterwards that that was the largest number of non-relatives he'd ever met. He was 26.

I live in Suffolk
It's true what he says.
I am not local.

I am local (Well, Lowestoft)
and I grew up with the jokes about Bungay's swimming pool being popular with the webbed handed ones. We would have laughed, but we all share a brain cell* and we find it hard to get jokes.

*and at least a cousin

I know it well
My Mum lived down the road in Holton, and when I was courting MrsScars we used to go there when visiting the 'rents.

On her first visit she stared in wild surmise at the assorted locals: "Is it a special needs day?"

"No darling, just Normal for Bungay".

I come from round there.
Well, I was born there, different gene pool altogether thankfully. I can vouch for the weirdness of the locals.
