The ship
doesn't launch for way too long - the first twenty minutes or so of the film, set in the modern day, are completely unncessary IMHO.

I believe this was the original brief given to the writers, who filled around with the usual bits about choppy water and hard done by but fantastically chipper Irish folk dancing below decks.
