I don't know where to start pointing out the flaws in this plan.
One of the main issues is that no till monkey in their right mind will remove the security tag from the TV without checking what has been put through the tills, and most of the time the scales on self service units have a relatively low maximum load on them.

I would suggest that you look on whomever provided this nugget as no longer being an authority, but rather as being full of shit.
