I had a similar "discussion" with my girlfriend.But this was about hands-free bins (ones for the kitchen). I tried to explain that most bins are hands-free as they have a FOOT-pedal to open them and that having an electronic part to them, which requires batteries, is just wasteful and pointless in so many ways.
She also bought me an electric pepper grinder and was confused why I didn't want it (for similar reasons as above).
