This is a question Failed Projects

You start off with the best of intentions, but through raging incompetence, ineptitude or the plain fact that you're working in IT, things go terribly wrong and there's hell to pay. Tell us about the epic failures that have brought big ideas to their knees. Or just blame someone else.

Cider
The stuff of tramps and chavs.
Well As I have an apple tree in my garden I thought I'd make some cider.
Thought "fuck pressing them" so juiced the lot (in the process burning out the juicer). Result two gallons of apple juice. Added sugar and waited.
1 year later I tried it as well as inflicting it on friends.
Decided it would probably kill you if you had more than one mouthfull and would best be used as battery acid. Haven't tried since.

...
Did you boil it for some time first, to kill of any unwanted nasties?

Homemade cider really is fantastic if you follow the correct process.

no
boil it? no, it went staright into some six pin plastic milk bottles.

Unfortunately it's not that simple
You have to bash up the apples and then press the pulp.

Better idea
Turbocider.

Get a decent quality apple juice from local supermarket. There's one that comes in a clear plastic bottle affair, I don't recall the brand but this worked a treat. Cheap and nasty apple juice leads to the odd, saccharin taste of Kopparberg. Be warned!

Bung 4 litres into a sterilised demijon and add yeast. Add a vaporlock and place on the windowsill.

Once it finishes bubbling (which depends on time) decant into bottles that will take pressure (recycled beer bottles are OK) and leave a week or two to clear up.

Enjoy!

[Disclaimer - when it's bubbling away on the windowsill it looks like you're making Jenkem].

Ninja edit. This stuff [Sainsbury's link] makes a powerful cider that is quite reminiscent of Old Rosie.

Thank
for all the tips. Best one I came up with was sell the apples at local car boot and buy 40 litres of proper cider from local supermaarket. Cheaper, easier, drunker, happier.
