To All The Whining Lefties
So Boris got in. Would you rather the BNP got in?
I would.

Not really
My main point is that it could be worse. I don't mean to offend any BNP voters with that comment, I mean it's a slight slide to the right, not a major one (again, sorry BNP voters, i understand the whole thing about Corporatism nto being left or right) or a major slide to the left.

No, your comment said this:
"So, you've got a dick in charge of your city, you whining lefties, but hey, you whining lefties, it could be worse, you whining lefties, it could've been the BNP"
Which, of course, it couldn't have been, as they are an irrelevent minority party, rendering your entire arguement obsolete.
Your turn.

It couldn't have been and couldn't have realistically have been are two different things

Simply put
No, they're not, and you've mad a pig's ear of your own argument.

Well
One is what could have happened and the other is what was likely to have happened.
Albiet I was at work until just ebfore the mayorship was announced, so I don't know how tight it was.
But, there exists a possibility, however small, that the UKIP candidate could have won.
The insertion fo the word "reasonable" brings it to a two-horse race, which it was, but the chance, however slim, did exist at one point, of there being a mayor that you dislike even more.
I mean, every election time, the local politicians of most parties urge us to vote anyone BUT the BNP. Even theya re concerned that, however small the chance is, they could get in.
I suppose it's a bit like asking if you are OK when you get kicked in the balls, but things can always be worse.
being very right-wing, I was mildly happy, but not over the moon myself.

Theory and practise are two different things
Like the current "Jihad", for example.
It's illegal by Shari law and therefore not a Jihad.
yet there is fighting.
now those who are fighting are claiming to support Islam, but actually aren;t Muslims.
Many people disgared how things work in favour of how they are and vice-versa.

I am not intelligent enough to actually have a stance on it
From what i know it was illegal (at least, George W. Bush declared war without congress, which is unconstitutional, but most presidents break that document willy-nilly anyway).
As far as I know they weren't a threat to us and it seems to be less stable now. However, it must be a blessing for the Kurds that Sadaam was disposed.
I don't actually care much about war, as far as I see it, war is eternal and unstoppable.
Morally I am not against it, but it seems to have been an impractical, illegal affair that has been a waste of our resources.
I do remember hearing that war was good for the economy, but the CIA world factbook says that America is the country most in defecit followed by the UK.

My apologise
I am slightly tipsy and just didn't want to give you one big block.
As for me being an arse, I have went for drinks with people who did previously hate me on the internet and apparently I am much more likeable in person.
I can be irritating at times, but who can't?

But I'm not from an Abrahamic religion, so to mention it would be pompous.

Bar to stop the whinging. it's more of a consoling than an argument.

Well, how about this
You might not like the man, nor his views, but he still might care to hear about your problems.
My dad votes for the Scottish Socialist Party nationally, but for the Liberal Democrats locally, because he has found their council work to be pretty swell.
Maybe you'll like him as a mayor in a years time. If you are going to continue to be rude, I'll just be silently happy in your anger at your prefered candidate losing.

And that's another thing
is that how you view democracy? As a national contest of one-up-manship? Christ.
I've looked at First Name Johnson's policies, none of which apply or appeal to me. That's why I voted elsewhere. I voted for the Lib Dems for local council because of their past history of success.
So I ask you again: Why would I vote for a man who I don't like, or whose views I don't like?

No
because we don't live in a democracy, we live in a Republic and I am not all that fond of either.
Of course you wouldn't vote for him, but he might not turn out to be as bad as you think.
To use the previous example, my dad would never vote for the liberal democrats. He wasn't fond of them or their candidate.
But he ended up being more responsive to my dads concerns than the lib dem platform called for or even their candidate had indicated.
