# my parents used to have a generator
after a several day long blackout, and my dad made up a cable that came out the generator and just had a standard 3pin plug that plugged into the wall socket and gave power to the house (although I never saw it working). Apparently an electrician would never recommend you to do it but it worked

Powercuts are relatively common where I live and the standard trick is to have a genny that you plug into a household socket.

Only thing you need to do is switch off the incoming supply otherwise nasty things can happen...
