no, it wasn't like that
they removed the lenses and sewed in new ones, but the little sacs that the lenses were in can't be removed and they're what's starting to fog up. it happens about 25% of the time, apparently

to be fair, it's pretty impressive what modern medicine can do with stuff like peepers and noggins.
