Bit of a weird one
I was walking back from my summer job at the local pub/hotel late one night, about 2am as the pub shut at 1am and we didn't get cleared away until much later.
The road home is poorly lit and quite overgrown with trees so it's usually very dark and spooky anyway. That night/morning was eerily foggy too, so it made visibility even worse.
As it's a small town, hitch-hiking home isn't a problem so it wasn't out of the ordinary to get lifts home from mates passing or from friends-of-friends, that kind of thing.
About half way into the couple of miles home, a car rolled up beside me, so I did the usual thing of getting in for a lift home. The only problem was that there was nobody else in the car, even though it was still moving along!
Absolutely scared shitless by this, I sat frozen in the seat. What made things worse is that coming up was a very sharp bend with a drop down the cliff into a deep ravine.
As the car got closer and closer to the bend, I really started freaking out, when suddenly a ghostly pair of hands emerged from the mist and turned the steering wheel and the car swung round the corner.
I finally made a break from it and got out of the car, and ran across the road to where this guys was sitting at the side of the road.
I pointed toward the car and told him there was something seriously wrong with it and he should be careful. 'I know' he replied, 'I've just pushed the bastard thing for the last mile.'
