I've heard a lot of people use ArkI just like Debian since it's slightly familiar, and uses very little resources. Just has proftpd and samba on it.

my uber 1337mate swears by it
but my shitty wee web server doesn`t like downtime (cos I shout at it), so I just picked a distro I could have up and running and serving in an hour* (apart from having to build drivers for the ADSL modem!)
* most of this time is spent installing, cos it`s a piece of shit PC that ROCKED back in ... 1996!
