was messing around wit it, but i dont know Max's mental ray interface as well as i do in Maya, so i jsut faked it with a bunch of falloff omni's with area shadows. hehe, did it work? ;)

the black surface it's on doesn't do it justice though, it would probably cast some excellent shadows on a nice light background...
