i havent tried paintshop pro since version 5 and its now 7 so i dont know how much its advanced, but it is the cheapest alternative to PS although PS elements is a quite cheap like £70 or something alternative to PS itself !

Yup Elements does the bizIt has outrageously useful ,magnetic lasso, aswell as ayers, save for web optimizing your jpegs and gifs and history palette. Basically its Photoshop with the obscure or heavy duty pre-press stuff left out.
