I think I'll probably aim to keep the hair fairly simple. It might end up looking a little out of place otherwise.
Righto, shall get on with using more layers. Thinking about it they really are a genius idea.
Already know what I'm going to do with the background. Going to stick Steve over this...

He'll cover most of it but it shall be enough for hardcore BNL fans :D

and as I say to other people who paint digitally regardless of their skill. Art is subjective, the only person you have to please with it is yourself. Frankly I believe those that do it with the sole reason of receiving adulation or kudos are not doing it for the right reasons.
by the way, try putting your pic above on top of the whole image then change the layer blending mode ( try them all and see what you like ) I'm sure you might be surprised.

Thanks :) I'm not quite happy with it yet. But I think its getting there. I have enjoyed doing it so far. I've done a couple of others and if it gets to the point where I'm not having fun with it anymore I stop.
With the hints and tips I've gathered I should be able to finish it off nicely. I'll try the blending too :)

I had absolutely no idea how to use photoshop 2 years ago. Never understood layers one bit. If you look at my profile stuff I've at least figured a few things out now. I still make a point of doing at least one internet or DVD tutorial a day.

Quite like the Noby Nobody, I'm a sucker for anything that's been coloured well.
Tis the GIMP for me. I'm guessing a lot of photoshop tutorials can be carried over to it though?

of the principles are the same. I only ever tried the gimp once, found it way too clunky, but then I found everything clunky at that time.
There are a few options though

I think I'll be trying that. Thankies.
I don't mind GIMP so far. My only gripe is that is a bit of a bugger to customize, effects and plug in wise. Ooo, and the fact it mangles almost every texture I tried to add.
That aside it does seem to link up rather well with my tablet.
