# How long have you been drawing? How long did it take to master this sort of thing?
Do you have any kind of training, like an education in this sort of thing, or did you sort of pick it up as you went along?

I want to be able to draw one day. But I worry that I'll just end up as a complete failure, like the many, many failures on DevArt (as in, 'DevArt is full of failures', not 'everyone on DevArt is a failure')

# Since I was 18, and I'm now 24.
Cutesy is easy to me as I used to work for Hallmark cards, it was fluff and glitter 24/7!

I prescribe a good graphics tablet and lots of practice. And gin.

# oi' where'dya leave
you police car sherlock? ;)

Edit:// why is it failure to end up on dev art? I post my stuff on there. Not for any other reason than so someone else might see it and mention that they like it.
I've less than 1000 page views and you've just made me feel like a failure.

# Did somebody just say "Ask more questions"?
Because I think I just heard somebody say "ask more questions"!

Edit: No no, you misread. Christ, I even put an extra bit in parenthesis :D

I said that DevArt contains a LOT of failures. People who just don't get things right, but THINK they're getting it right because it's so difficult to assess your own work - and their circle of friends also tells them they're doing it right for fear of offending the person, so they never improve and just constantly fail time and time again.

But not EVERYONE on DevArt is automatically a failure.

# I forgot the smiley.
I've had some kid (23) pass by my DA recently and give me the most MAJOR of critiques on my work. He tells me he loves it, then tells me what's wrong. He's ever so serious about it all. I'm guessing art student. I have not got the heart to tell him I do it as a hobby and don't care a fig if it turns out a bit shit :D

# You should care. Even if it's just a hobby, you should want to improve, no?

# not really.
It's the same with everything I do. I'll be good at it. I'm that kind of person. I refuse to be poor at anything. I will however settle for less than perfect. The only person I have to satisfy when I make stuff is me.
I'll improve just by the nature of doing things more. I could not use photoshop 2 years ago and had never heard of image layers. I just pick it up as I go along.
Corel Painter is my thing these days, no doubt I'll get bored with that and move on. I've just got back into world of warcraft after nearly a year off. I might not make another image for a year if im in a WOW server 18 hours a day again.

# Painter knocks the socks off Photoshop in my eyes
It's bloody brilliant. Stick with it because your results are impressive!

# oh you know.
Usual technique, fill up with Stella, push the pen around the wacom for a few hours, see what spews forth.

This would be my favourite one but because the subject is so personal.

# Then the way you think is different from how I do.
Even if I like something I made, there has to be at least one other person in the world who genuinely likes it in order for me to be happy with it :D

And I don't/can't even draw anything seriously, yet. Shit.
