
You probably need to reduce the number of colours from 256 to maybe 64.
But the main thing is the fade-in at the end. GIFs only store the changes between frames, but with a fade, everything (or, in this case, everything except the background) changes for every frame. If you changed it to a 'wipe', it would probably save space, and if you made the effect last for fewer frames, you'd save even more.
Also, 280 pixels is maybe a more suitable picture width for b3ta, as this is the maximum width of a picture for the front page. This will save yet more space.
