i'm a bit rusty when it comes to mythology, although it's a subject i love. i may have to look up this jasper fforde fellow.

he is good

there's at least two of us on here who like his stuff (Panjandrum is t'other that I know of)

he's got two series of books, The Nextian Adventures

(The Eyre Affair, Lost in a Good Book, The Well of Lost Plots, Something Rotten and First Among Sequels so far, next one out next year)

(Nursery Crimes series: The Big Over-Easy and The Fourth Bear)

all a bit surreal, but fun.

I always do (although I'm owed a b'day present)

Fforde is not a fan of Pratchett, but at Fforde's first Hay appearance Pratchett tried to get on stage afterwards to speak to him and encourage him to keep writing but the security didn't realise who he was.

Pratchett quote used on the cover of most of the books: "Ingenious -- I'll watch Jasper Fforde nervously"

The new one's not set on discworld (as we know it) is it?

i think it's set on

one of the brown islands. i won't know till i get it, i don't want to spoil the story.

fair enough. i read the review in the waterstones mag (i gets it free, it's really not worth the money though) and that seemed to suggest it was off disc.

i wasn't overly impressed with making money, tbh. i think the last one i really enjoyed was thud, but night watch kicked arse, too.

i was more impressed

than i thought i would've been. i was expecting it to be a carbon copy of going postal. i'm still certain he's got the stockpile, and i think he took longer to go public with his alzheimers than is claimed (and fair play to him, why should he tell anyone except his close family before he's ready) but i'd agree that the newer non-watch ones haven't been as good as the newer watch ones. think they've become his favourites

can't believe it's the 25th anniversary this year and all they've done is issue another shite cover for one of the books

i missed the convention

at the adelphi a few years ago, i haven't had the chance to go to another. i have met him, though. i love the city watch books, but some of the non-related books have been really good too. monstrous regiment, for one.
