When I was a kid......we were taught to look both ways when crossing the road, and keep looking while crossing.
These days people ignore the cars, so the driver has to stop for them. They don't even look when they step off the edge.
And if some ones feral child runs across the road, the parent who has ignored it all day will be out in seconds blaming you for their bad parenting.
