# I got 6 out of 10
too. This despite me having half of those models. I even got the apple 2 question wrong and i have one in the loft.

I am very hungover.

# I got 8 out of 10
I need to get out more

:D

# I really should have got them all.
each answer I got wrong was a "Oh for fuck's sake Craig, you knew that" moment.

Ah well. Fond memories though. The Pet 4 was my first ever computer. The BBC being wankers though needed to have included the Amiga but because it shit all over their Archimedes rebadged junk they hated it then and probably do today.

# heh
tho I do remember once being told "acorn's going to take over the world" and I thought "bollocks"

this is when there was actually still original commercial acorn going on.

of course they were sort of right ultimately, depending on point of view

bloody arm's in eveything now.

# hehe, it took a while though.
I don't have anything arm based. I don't think I do. I'm pretty sure it's an intel in my HTC exec.

I won't be getting on the trendy wagon and getting an eeeeeeepc or whatever is going on there these days.

I might get a Nokia N96 though, it looks good and my HTC is aging a bit.

# I don't have a compelling need for a laptop, and if I did it'd probably be a high performance one anyway
it would be nice to have some laptop with 3g + stereo bluetooth, but being a peon I can't afford it, and even if I wasn't a peon I'd be somewhat twitchy for paying over the odds for tiered and restricted services

really I just want mobile broadband I can abuse the same way I do with my household broadband and not be concerned with stupid metered crap

was pondering some random chinese phones with big screens and a few interesting features (cost peanuts) but I wonder about the quality issues with them, I wanted to get a mobile phone wristwatch too but seems they are pretty appalling generally.

# I too was condidering those phones.
They sem to have all the stuff in all the right places. I was going to open an ebay shop for my sone to get his head into business and well, Chinese electronics seem a good way to go. It's a big risk as many of the trade leads I've followed up don't want to send samples to a non established business. ( I can't convince them that my construction company is going to market electronics )

# yeah, the joy of alibaba.com :)
I've noticed that for most companies specifications consists of shipping volumes and payment terms and nothing else. Which is all the more annoying for those random little things I find myself needing that I know are made in random chinese sweat shops and end up costing over the odds over here.

I've found one company that seems kosher, they'll sell individual items to private individuals, still need to buy in bulk off them to get proper bargains though www.chinavasion.com not to be confused with www.chinavision.com who seem to copy their website and cause mayhem..

out of all the looking I've done only found one that seems to have a good enough reputation for me to spend $$ with.

I thought you did business in china previously?

But, surely a construction company might want to make gifts to potential clients as part of happy fun business interaction?

Guess if you aren't buying in K quantities you don't matter. :)

# I've done business in China on the past
but in a different area. I don't have a problem with volume and will happily buy 200 units of an item. I just would like to see some product before I find I'm embarrassed trying to shift a load of old tat on ebay ;)
(, Wed 15 Oct 2008, 17:56, archived)
# oh it's all shite, let's be honest :)
the thing that's stopping me going nuts and trying to flog a load of crap is that I wonder about how many returns there'd be, quality control seems to consist of putting a little "QA Approved" sticker on everything and carting it up

I'd add a 0 to that 200 units to be honest :)

Dunno what the answer is to getting samples short of actually visiting the companies themselves.
