edit: two sheets of thin plywood, wrap the thing in a bit of bubble wrap and pop between, use large square dowel to keep it from being squashed, and parcel tape, then wang the whole thing in a padded envelope

It's too big for that.The piece is about 24" across and 32" long.
Actually, I believe they're coming through my area in a month or so. I may just attach it to a sheet of plywood and let them carry it home that way- I don't trust the postal service with something this delicate.
