I have a sneaky suspicion the photohrapher may have use a flash to bolster the light a tad, look at the shadows under squizzle,they seem to suggest an extra light source coming from the direction of the camera, which might explain the change in colour.
Or maybe it's a were-rat who changes form by the light of a full 60 watt! ;)
