# Memories!
Hoya!

Back in 1987-88, I had an ultra groovy CPC 464 and so did some friends of mine. One week-end, I ended up at a friend's for two days of great fun. We played Gauntlet II.

Remember the big dragon on the bow, right? We wanted to kick his mighty arse badly.

We started to play before dinner. When dinner arrived, we paused the game, ate (my friend being a proficient eater, the wait was unbearable!) then want back to playing.

Cue the 99 levels of the game. We thought, ace! This is the ultimate level, we're going to fight to big lizard and thus separate boys from men.
The computer being a CPC it asked us to rewind the tape to 000.
'Weird', thought we. After all, does it make sense to put the final boss at the very beginning of the tape (or so, because the game, after loading, asked to zero in the tape counter, if I remember correctly). Nevertheless, we complied.

Then the FINAL LEVEL started!

Wot??? Where is the dragon? Maybe he is too afraid to face us? OK, let's play another couple of levels just to be sure...

Fucksocks!!! After plaing, like, ten levels, we had to admit it. There was NO 100th level, NO blooody dragon to fight and NO princess to gang-bang! It was a lie!
We were so disgusted that we resetted the machine, played another game and hardly played Gauntled II after...

Years later, thanks to MAME, I discovered that the arcade version generates RANDOM mazes ad lib... The CPC not being powerful enough had to restart from the beginning... ;-)

Those were the times!
